351 Days of Change: I can quit you

How many times do you hear yourself say, “I CAN quit you” [?] No, not THAT sort of quit. I’m talking about who and what we choose to invite into our lives.

At the moment, I’m talking about our company alliances. Yes. We get to choose them. Not the other way around.

I’m not talking about the big box stores that are putting Mom/Pop shops out of business. I’m talking about the more entrenched companies.

We get to choose. When we take our lives back from the world, we get to choose who we are and how we will be treated by others.

I’m on hold (with the 2nd of I am guessing many) phone companies trying to cancel a phone plan that’s been awful since day one.

They were delighted to upload me into their system, but never wiped the number from the entanglement of the former user. I’ve gotten daily harassment, spam and other assorted mischief on that person’s behalf.

When I called this company’s hotline for “customer service” I’ve received a bevy of experiences just short of ~ extreme unpleasantness. Including the one time the technician clearly just woke up from a nap! Or, was stoned. Hard to tell, but my call interrupted his 2 pm. 🙂

Then there was the enormous bank that hosted both home and car loans, but had a practice of harassing, belittling, and tormenting clients. I was lucky enough to be one of them. They were told to bully people into paying. It was a practice so horrible, the federal government got involved. I hadn’t known that at the time. I wish I had. Several people turned around and sued them.

I settled with them, when one day, they went from calling at 7 am or 10 pm to call me names or tell me (not kidding) that I was probably also a bad parent. A BANK!

Needless to say, they were as bad as a quintessential divorce. An ugly one. They were also fined billions for their practices and forced to change their ways.

The thing is,

Just today, I saw that yet another enormous company, this time a chain restaurant that was already slowly dying out, posted a rant by one of it’s executives.

Reddit has its place in our world. The influence of confessions under the guise of fake names and anonymous confessions, companies are being called out.

Are they the asshole?

All of the above is a resounding yes.

One of the things I absolutely love about all of this full disclosure on social media ~ inspired by those young adults who don’t know that there should be any other way ~ is that bad behavior, mistreatment and abuse are no longer being tolerated.

I LOVE that for us, as a species.

Everything that my generation caused or put up with, while we also promoted a healthy mindset is exploding into the “NOPE” zone.

Sexual harassment? Nope

Partner abuse? NOPE

Big Company bad behavior? NOPE.

You will find yourselves on a Reddit or Imgur and then, ALL over Tik Tok ~ the King of all gossip.

I’m fascinated by this change of guard.

Not sure about you, but I’m very sure that the way business used to be conducted, won’t be tolerated for much longer.

There are too many people creating a more transparent, refreshing shift in mindset.

Companies, educational systems, and corporations continue to treat people as if they are here for us, instead of us, being there for them.

Trying ~ on paper is not the same thing as Doing in real life.

Every experience is an exchange of energy.

When we decide to choose a simpler life, without a desire to socially compare ourselves to others, we also free ourselves from those that don’t care about our social-emotional-mental-fiscal health.

A long time ago, I heard the saying, “we treat people how to treat us”

This is true of relationships of all sorts.

Including company culture.

I can quit you ~ there’s entirely too much competition and knowledge about excellence in consumer services.

As a matter of fact, in the short time it took me to write this post, I uncoupled from the company in question.

Now, off to write for Fiverr, UpWork, a private contract and ~ a few other places.

Choosing the simple life means ~ we can quit all the shit we hate, so we have more room for the things we love.

Make room in your life for the things that bring you joy ~ there is no other way when your goal is to be happy.
